In my job I use a contact manager/calendar program called ACT!. Back in
the late 20th century, Symantec bought ACT! from the original company
    that produced it.

They came out with a new version, Y2K compliant, Version 5.0 (IIRC). It
was abysmally slow and took forever to start. I complained to deaf ears.
    Many others did as well.

A short later, Symantec divested itself of ACT!, and an update came out.
This version started quickly, had terrific performance, and some new
features. I'm still using it, 8 years later, having moved through
several computers and versions of Windows.

A side note: A couple of years ago, I bought a newer version and it was
horrible. I uninstalled it and went back to the older version. Act
Software has since been sued, and paid a settlement, for selling
    features that never worked.
