automatic updates won't turn on

recently i have not been able to receive updates due to this "SettingsModifier: Win32/PossibleHostsFileHijack". windows defender pops up everytime i start up with the message that it has detected this settings modifier on my computer. it goes to remove but it pops up again and again and it doesn't fix anything.

I do not see much in your HJT at quick glance.

You can FIX these entries:
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7E853D72-626A-48EC-A868-BA8D5E23E045} - (no file)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Generic Driver] svthost.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Generic Driver] svthost.exe

Then, you'll need to use Windows Explorer to track down and delete svthost.exe (svthost.exe)
* Note the spelling!! Not to be confused with the legitimate ---> svchost.exe


Also:
I suggest that you then run MBA-M and DSS as per the linky below and post the logs.
