I found a site loaded with Media players, but some are not OPEN source, I guess they do not pay the piper for "license" requirements for the encoder software patents so you may want to stay away from those.
i just got amarok but havent played around with it too much. i like it so far though
I read a little bit about amarok, aslo something called xmms or similar while looking through the winamp forums. xmms for linux was mentiond to have been created by the developers of winamp, prior to winamp? not sure of this, just something that was mentioned at the winamp forum. Tis interesting, my brother and I were considering trying out ubuntu on his older machine to see if we like it.
i've used xmms before, and its not bad. it pretty much just looks like winamp classic but doesnt function as well. now as far as ubuntu goes, i've only used a couple of different linux distros, but i like ubuntu the best. one thing i really like is the install cd, doubles as a live disc, and you can run the os straight from the cd. very nifty.
I like that option. Can it run as a live server for dumb terminals? say, I wanna have a bunch of cheap portables programed to sniff bootrom.
