Thread: Can't Unlock Taskbar

    Can't Unlock Taskbar

I'm using XP sp2. I have 2 user accounts, both set to Admin. On account "M" everything works fine, but on account "L", I uncheck the "Lock Taskbar" option by either right clicking on the blank area of the taskbar or by right clicking & choosing "properties", but nothing changes. The bar remains locked. Same for my toolbar.

    Any thoughts?

    Here's an update:

I also have found that I can't change the views (like changing the control panel view to "classic view), and I have to always click "show these files" when I try to look at a drive contents. So, I'm thinking it has to do with Admin privileges. I went to user accounts and changed the user "L" from admin to a limited account and then back to an Admin account, but no change.

Do you log off one account before trying the other?

I've tried it both ways, logging off & then tried it just switching users, same deal.

Here's another thing I just found. I'm not sure how I got it, but I noticed something called AntivirXP08 on my system. I use AVG free edition and also have SpyBot SD running all the time & neither one said anything about it. I googled it and found that it's a trojan (I think). I uninstalled it, seemingly with no problems, but I am noticing that things are running a bit slower than normal. I ran windows malicious software removal program and scanned with the AVG & SpyBot.

    AntivirXP08 is a virus.
Maybe post a Hjt log for a log expert to check.

    • Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
    • Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
    • By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
    • Click on Install.
    • It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
    • Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
    • Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
    • Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
    • Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
    • DO NOT use the AnalyseThis button, its findings are dangerous if misinterpreted.
    • DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.
