    antivirus/antispyware comparison web site....

    hi all,

i haven't read anything from this groups in some time.

seeing AVG antivirus is going to a paid version on may 31, 2008.

i thought sometime back someone used to post a link that showed
antivirus and antispyware programs in an comparison chart on a website.
these charts showed/rank these program how how many nasties they found.

could anybody post that link if i have the right groups.

i'm looking for a good free antivirus program that scans real time. i
    really liked AVG.

if i have to pay for one, anyone care to make a recommendation for a
good antivirus program thats not a resource hog.

i remember trying NOD32 sometime ago and it seemed to be a good program
    for the money.

AVG is still giving a free version. It is a better program too. AVG8 Free.
    Go to,

    http://free.grisoft.com/ww.download-...s-free-edition

I have had it on three computers for a couple of weeks and am very pleased
with it. It does more and with more options, so read the help files
    carefully.

There are many good free AV applications available, and almost everyone has
his favorite. Most of the users are emotionally attached to their av
application and will have excellent reasons for not recommending any other
    brand.
The most important thing here is that all of the available choices listed
here are better in some respects than in others, and which choice is better
for *you* depends on what you do, how you work, and which features you use.
The way you use your PC is different from others.
    Have a look at this:

    and be guided accordingly.
Good info can be obtained here:

If the above is too deluging consider this:-
Real-time AV applications - for viral malware.
Do not utilize more than one (1) real-time anti-virus scanning engine!
Disable the e-mail scanning function during installation (Custom
Installation on some AV apps.) as it provides no additional protection.

I had a horrible time with AVG, but I'm glad it worked for you. From
my experience, computers are a lot like people, and they're all
different too! I personally think Avast is the best free antivirus out
there, but then again, stick to what works for you, especially for
    antiviruses.

As for sites that compare antivirus performances, I do have full
respect for them, but for some strange reason antiviruses that do well
in lab tests didn't perform as well when I used them on my home
computers. Actually it's happened over and over again over the last so-
    many-years I can remember.
