    Yes - I do have a router.

In that case, any need for seconfig?

Not really if your router has a firewall and is configured correctly. I
downloaded that seconfig some time back but never installed it. I do use
    the Windows firewall too though.

    Oh, really.

Is that what your advisor is advocating?

    > They are already closed by the router except when needed.

Yeah, right. As if Mr. or Mrs. Hacker would care...LOL.

We're all waiting for quantification and qualification.

Uh, that's my whole point, moron. Forcing closed a few default ports is of
no real benefit. You think that will stop a hacker? Wake up and smell the
    coffee.

Stop littering this group with your nonsense and drivel and stick your
unwarranted insults in one of your bodily caveties.

    You're so predictable.

If I'm so predictable then why did you even ask me to qualify what I
posted? I'm the one going against the grain here so if anyone is
predictable it is you. You do realize that closing some of those ports
you suggest will mean that it will break some apps from working. The
unsuspecting user who has followed your advice will be pulling their
hair out wondering why they can't use their app as it was designed to
be used. And it will all be because they followed your advice when
that advice is not needed if you have a router.

Please elaborate on which application "will break from working" when
closing ports 135,137-139 and 445. The "unsuspected users" deserve to know.
