    PCMCIA drive reader

I bought a pcmcia drive back in 1997 i think, anyway, i just bought a new one and it made no difference in speed. I'm using it for my laptop data card in my desktop. I thought the older might be speeding at 1.0 and the new one would be at 2.0 like USB works. ps... it is much faster in the laptop, not sure why.

    Thx

Check if there are any PCMCIA driver updates for the desktop, might help?

If you don't mind, post some more info about the desktop, computer make/model, or motherboard brand/model, and opperating system version.

And what brand/model card reader, how it interfaces with the PC etc.

Thx for the reply, don't laugh, lol!!! Intel PII300 abit motherboard SICI card XP Pro, built this machine back in 97, lol. The front load card reader I got in 98 i think, the new on i just got last week, an off brand and it attaches to a pci slot and is a rear slot entry. I know i need to build a new machine so i can play ut3 with out lag. i'm guessing its the mb. I do have a 2.0 card in a pci slot as well and it works at that speed.

    Thank you

300Mhz processor's gonna be a dog for pretty much anything you do on that machine, windows xp will help things go a little faster due to better memory managment but you still need to have the minimum recommended hardware/memory/free drive space, in order to get the most out of it.. What is a SICI card?

Still not enough info about the parts/make model etc to gather specific technical info such as max throughput/bus limmitations etc.. From a standards point of view, a pci card bus adapter will probly support 32bit transfers, which will be a little faster than the old 16bit transfer rate. The adapter/daughter card will have to support 32bit transfers though.

I know i need to build a new machine so i can play ut3 with out lag.
This is a whole new subject, however, if you need help with recommendations for the system /budget, hardware performance etc.. We can look into that as well.

Is that USB 2.0 or pc-card II?

    Thank you
    You're welcome.
