I use CrapCleaner to clean the registry and it has never caused me any
issues. It's a lightweight cleaner but that is all I need.

I use RegVac (not freeware), it finds hundreds of useless entries, the only
problem I get is I have to re-associate Irfanview to view pictures.

So you have admitted that this commercialware registry cleaner ****s up
by removing filetype associations. If it can't figure out the
interdependency of a filetype association with an application then why
would it be any smarter regarding other interdependent registry keys?
That you've had only that problem simply means you haven't discovered
the other problems that it creates or you have a simple environment that
doesn't involve registry entries that the cleaner can't understand.

Only one, and the setting that does it has a warning and can be disabled. If
all other software products had just one bug it would be a much better
    world.

As I've already stated, it doesn't affect anything else, apart form making
my boot time quicker as it no longer tries to alter or look at things that
    no longer exist.

No, I'm installing and uninstalling programs all the time, if I didn't clean
out my registry on a regular basis it would become bloated and possibly
    unstable.
