    Share USB Printer

I have reciently installed aUSB, HP-5610-All-In-One printer; a replacement for a parrallel HP-930 printer. I have shared the device out via the Properties menu on the printer; share name HPOffice. There are two additional PCs in the building on an Microsoft Network, and IP network.

I tried to add the printer to the first client PC using: \\BROWN\HPOffice. I get and error stating no device found. Is there a trick to setting up a USP printing device? Normally, it just does it.

After searching all the specs for this computer on the HP website it does not appear that this computer is network capable, unless I read the information incorrectly and I honestly was not certain exactly what to look for. I would go directly to the HP website and chat with an online tech. I have had very good results doing this with my HP printers.

Let us know what you find out.

It isn't that hard at least in my experience...you just want to setup a printer that's attached to another computer...just make sure that it's shared on the computer it's hooked up to and install it through the other machines in the wizard...it shouldn't be too hard...

Tell us a bit more about your network
is the printer setup on a server or another workstation?
    Are you using a domain?
You will not be able to share any functions besides the print.

    Here is the solution:

    1. Made sure all PCs had Sharing turned on.
    2. Then, per HP, had to reload software on Server, the PC with the actual connection.
    3. Then had to take the HP-5610 to each work station connect it to the PC Client.
    4. Install the software as if the PC was attached to it.
    5. After installation remove USB connection from Client PC, reconnect it to Server PC.
    6. At the client add a new printer, HP-5610 as local with new port.
    7. Put new port in as \\Computer Name \ Printer name(on Server) complete the wizzard.

It is now working, but what a task. Next time the powers that be buy any IT stuff they will check with me.
