Explorer refreshes to top of page without my request

While viewing a MSNBC.com, my browser (Explorer) will reset itself to the top of the page while I'm reading several screens below. I'm not sure with this is Explorer, MSNBC, or javascript issues, but I would like to know if I can control this. Any ideas?

It's possible that the page hasn't finished downloading and try's to go back to a previous position when a graphic finished downloading. To test this, wait for the word "finished" or "done" to apear in the page status bar at the bottom of the browser window.. If this doesn't help, there may be banner ads, or some graphic animation restarting at the top that forces the website to "refocus" to that graphic each time it refreshes/restarts. If that is the case, it would cause the page to go back to the top as long as the graphic is there... Try pressing the "stop" button or the escape key shortly after the text that you want to read has loaded.. You may have to press it several times to stop all the activity, or press the escape key several times, then see if it still refreshes back to the top while you are viewing the lower content.. I've found that newer browsers no longer allow you use the stop button/escape key to interrupt a page while it's downloading.. Probly some new plugin/code with the newer browsers so that the website authors can confirm a unique viewer has downloaded their sponsers ad, has seen it etc... all so they can get a paycheck from their sponsers.. Maybe temporarily disable "play animations" in the internet options |advanced tab, under multimedia, or try a current well known to be safe popup/ad blocker app..

What version of javascript are you using?

Just went to msnbc.com with internet explorer on a windows xp machine, sp2, and popup blocker enabled, scrolled down to a few articles without allowing popup's and had no issues scrolling, temporarily allowed popups and noticed a tendancy for the scroll bar and page to jump up slightly, but not all the way back to the top. hope this helps.
