Help with secuirty and maybe a virus?

Ok It has been a LONG time since I have been here. I am back in Iraq...again! sob. Anyway and we got our own network up. Thing is we also got a guy that can crack 128bit encription and call's this "basic" hacking...

#1 I would like some help on locking my system down to keep this guy out.

#2 I duno if it's a virus or what. But on my desktop I keep having a "new folder" just re-creat it's self over and over. It's pissing me off! I have tried everything I know to get rid of it.

So far right now all I have to help maintain my laptop is "Search & Destory". And well me. But I have forgot SOOO much, and have not stayed current. So a little help would be nice. I checked www.shieldsup.com which found my IP. But otherwise nothing. Thing is I know thats not right. My laptop's not secure for crap. It should have but maybe because our sat system & or routers are blocking it? Either way that doesn't protect me from anyone on my own network.

BTW, I am running windows XP.

Have you done the steps here
if not then please do so. This probably should be in the Spyware Central forum so I will move it there, OK?

Check the properties of the folder see if it sheds any light. Does it have a name or just say new folder? Does it contain a tilde ~ ? I know years agon on my old computer Outlook Express had some sort of bug in it which every so often would create a desktop folder and the name of the folder had a tilde ~ in it.
A program is probably recreating the folder.
Check what's loaded in Startup in msconfig to find the parent program.
You might try renaming it and then deleting it.
But do the steps in the sticky for sure and post those logs here. You only mention running Spybot, do you also have a firewall and anti-virus program? If not go here and pick one each of the free ones listed.

Just says "new folder" has nothing in it, and if you check to see the folders properties there is nothing in it. Zero data.

I delete it and it just randomly comes back! (annoying me)

And yea, I checked msconfig, I have only what needs to be running load on startup. All my messangers, quicktime etc. were making for a sluggish start up so I did that a while back. And no I don't have much else other than search & destory. I used to have AVG anti-virus.....used to LOL.

I only get a few hr's a day to get online since I am pretty busy in Iraq so I am spending most of that time talking with my wife etc. I will try to get to it tomorrow since I have some time off then.

Thanks for the help so far. I re-installed AVG and I took a look at Comodo the firewall prog. I might mess with it after I post up a log tomorrow.

OK, it would seem I am having trouble understanding how to obtain the HJT log. I have looked at the HJT analyzer tab but, to be honest. Don't get it.
