Number 3 is CD-Audio line in, for the motherboards integrated sound card.
Number 2 is COM port B, an internal IO port, similar to serial dongle plugs on older pc's
Numbe 1 is ?? not certain, it could be related to form factor.
Thanks for the reply cauzomb.
1. I think I found out or rather realized a few hours later that AVL is an acronym referring to a motherboard having onboard Audio, Video and, LAN.
2. Will this COMB port be of any use nowadays to me or others who might be buying a gigabyte motherboard.
3.I Think you are right. I think I remember an old Pentium 3 PC i had before had a cable connected from the its cdrom to this cd-in.
But the cd writer in the Compaq Presario i now have has no connection to this "cd-in" in its motherboard. So, my question is what is the purpose of connecting a cdrom or writer to the cd-in port or teminal.
The main purpose is to play audio compact discs using the computer's CD-ROM, through the computer's soundcard. Some CD-ROM drives have "PLAY FORWARD/BACK" and "VOLUME" buttons on the front, these can take advantage of the cd-line out/in and play disc's without the software based windows/other CD player having to be loaded etc. There is another CD-DA cable on cd-roms that allows DIGITAL audio out from the back of the cdrom, some sound cards support CD-DA, DIGITAL signal in as well as the standard analog plug.. In the case of the audio/video/lan specs, it looks like they are geared towards home theater PC's, or automotive "in your car" or "soccer-mom" media centers and may have a 1U rack low profile form factor, or micro ATX, NANO ATX form factor to fit into small spaces.
Hey, thanks again cauzomb. Now I get it.
