    Help with computer?

Hey guys, I just bought a bunch of parts to build my new pc. Unfortunately this is my first *real* time building a new computer from scratch. I know where most of the stuff goes but I ran across my problem the first time I tried to boot up.

After plugging in the power plug, I pushed the power button to try and boot up but was met with a long continuous beep. It was at a very low volume and appeared to be coming from the motherboard. Nothing showed up on the monitor.

At the moment, all I had plugged in was my keyboard (with a regular plug), my usb mouse, the power plug, and my monitor.

    Parts Purchased For New Computer:
    Thermaltake Purepower W0100RU ATX 12V 2.0 500W Power Supply
    Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz LGA 775 Model BX80562Q6600
    GeForce 8800GT 512MB 256-bit
    Corsair XMS2 1GB 240-pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (2 of them)
GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX All Solid Capacitor Intel Motherboard
    Western Digital 500GB 16MB Cache 7200RPM SATA 300MB/s

    Parts Pulled From Old Computer:
    Sony CD Burner
    Generic DVD-Rom

    Hello, nice system!

Ensure that you have all your drive wires connected right, pin1 to pin1 etc. The cpu heatsink set propperly with thermal compound, I like arctic silver as5. Cpu fan plugged into the motherboard header. Additional motherboard power taps plugged in, graphics card power taps plugged in etc.. Try re-seating the memory as well. Follow the recommendations on page 16 of the manual where it states what sockets to install the memory in, based on the number of memory sticks being used. EDIT, according to the manual, it ooks like you need to know if it's single sided or double sided memory. Easy enough to tell... If there are memory chips on boths sides of the memory stick, it's double sided. If it has chips on one side only, it's single sided.

Um, not sure about what/where the additional motherboard power taps are. Do I still plug in the power for the graphics card slot if its PCI express? Would love to tell you if it's double sided memory or not but the Corsair logo covers up both sides. :\

Also, do I connect both the Main Power Connector and the 12V connector? And the MainPower Connector looks like it's missing a pin..

Check your motherboard connections. It is highly likely that your motherboard has a 24-pin power connector, and you may have a 20+4 power supply connector. Also, there might be an additional 4-pin power connector that you need to plug into the motherboard also.

A beep like that is usually consistent with power or an issue with a component not being fully seated or seated in the correct slot (in the case of RAM or Video Card (some mobo's have 2 PCI-Ex16 slots and if you are using one card there is usually a specific slot the card has to reside in)).

It's a 24-pin Main Power Connector, with 4 pins being optional. All 24 have been plugged in. I don't think there are any 4-pin power connectors other than that which came with the PSU.

Just tried refitting the graphics card and the ram. No good.

Also, there's only one slot that would even fit the GeForce 8800GT.

Hmmm...Do you have any other cards/peripherals that connect to the motherboard?
