That's a pretty good bang for the $$$ video card. No sense in spending more since DX10 games are around the corner and 6 blocks up. The x1900GT should hold you until then.

Yes she is, but she is a different realm of gamer. I'm mainly a racer, and sometimes a FPS. She is more RPG, Final Fantasy is her poison, as well as Sims....She said that If I could find a shooter that is 3rd person she'd play in a heartbeat...she can't stand 1st person for some reason.

The funny thing is, when I bought the card it was $139.99, and they seem to have jacked the price $20, and then discounted $10. The funny thing is, before i bought it, they had it listed the same way it is now....

And that's what I figured with DX10...it's a ways out yet before the games that I play will need it. and I can upgrade then, but XP doesn't even have DX10 support, so I'm not too worried.

im running a 1600 and love it BUT
if you want raw frames i'd get the X850
if you want more detail (AA/AF/hi res)
i'd get the X1600
although the core and ram are slower it's a much better GPU
infact i don't think the 1600 core has pixlel pipes i think it's on the 100% new core....

i also have a SWEEY intel 965 board for sale (sealed) if you want that it's got built in GFX (DX9) but you'd need a intel chip

Well, I was going to get an x850, but they have discontinued the PCI-E versions. I've been keeping an eye on Tom's Hardware VGA charts and the best of video cards. Believe me, I do all kinds of research when I do a vid card upgrade. But the x1900GT is the best out of the 3 mentioned in here, plus it was ~$5 more expensive than the x1600s.

And I don't have intel, and probably won't have intel ever.

The x850xt is faster than the 1600gt by 3 points in toms graphs; this is with AA and AF on which is considered highquality in the visuals department, even at 1024x768. The x850 is faster at 1280x1024 with AA and AF by like 10fps? no big deal there but yeah it's discontinued so it's not worth the effort to locate the x850 or invest in a 1600 any more than locating a 1800 or 1900 series card that's faster than either.

Even though we're seeing more FPS out of the x850 with AA and AF ON is it just that the 1600's graphics look better?

The only time 1600xt bests the x850xt in AA and AF is when there are two 1600 in crossfire against ONE x850xt, and at that it's only a handfull of a difference, imagine if you run two x850xt's or even two x850xtpe's in crossfire "yes they do that" but again, the cost of doing this is like buying one new 1950xtx

Well, I got my x1900gt today. Man that card is heavy and long. but I tell you what, that thing is FAST. I used ATITool to keep track of the temps and fan speeds for my x1300 and then I was trying to get the x850 to work.

My x1300 would run about 150FPS average, where as now, my x1900 will run at 550FPS average. And I can now run NFS Carbon and Most wanted at 1024x768 full till with NO lag!!
