Alright I downloaded AVG, updated the definitions, and did a scan and it found nothing. Thank you so much for all your help. Oh and by the way, do you have any idea what's causing the sound to go on and off?

Do these sound problems occur at any special time or is it all the time? Does it matter if you are on or off-line? Can you play a CD for instance and have the sound work ok? Are you using any special program at the time the sound problems occur...Windows Media Player, Quicktime, Real Player? Of is it just the sounds on the computer in general...new mail sound, log on and off music, that type of thing.

Have you checked in the Device Manager to be certain it shows no problems with the Sound Controllers?
Have you checked Realtek for updated drivers?

Whenever the sound goes off, there's no sound for anything. CD's, system sounds or itunes or anything doesn't work.

I've checked the Device Manager and I've updated all the drivers.

I'm not sure if there's a pattern to why it turns off or not but it seems random to me. I don't really know how to describe it except for the screenshot I posted earlier.

What driver do you have installed for your RealTek AC97? The current driver version is A3.95 and the latest update for this was 11/20/2006

Alright, my computer was running well for awhile, but I think I've gotten something bad on here somehow. Something got into my computer and without me realizing it, disabled my firewall and my security center that told me when my firewall was on. And then it preceded to disable my audio and my wireless zero configuration. I didn't notice any of this, and still am not sure at the level of damage it conflicted, until my wireless connection sent me an error message. I looked up the problem on my other computer and went to run "%SystemRoot%\system32\services.msc /s" and then started everything again. Since this I have installed EZFirewall, and ran all of my spyware and antivirus programs but they found nothing but cookies, and after I deleted them, the problems continued to take place. I have no idea how to take care of something like this, any suggestions?

I just want to throw something in here for you, as I know AIM is really good at installing CRAP on computers. You can go download GAIM which is in NO way associated with AIM, but will run all kinds of different IM engines, such as AIM, MSN, Yahoo, IRC, ICQ, etc...

Just a thought, as you never know exactly what AIM has installed for it's ads and things.

Just an FYI, as they are still in production stages, Gaim 1.5 is the latest FINAL build of it, and they are currently Testing GAIM 2.0, and I believe that it is currently beta5. But I know gaim 1.5 runs PERFECT except for MSN accounts. But 2.0 will work with them. And I've noticed that GAIM is a lot lighter than anything else...the resources are used are negligable...virtually nada.
