Outlook Express Login Problem with Hotmail

I had to re-install XP Pro on a partial basis wherein my existing files were not wiped clean off of my harddrive. It appeared to be a successful re-install.

Prior to the crash and re-install, I had no problem sending or receiving email from Hotmail with Outlook Express.

I have 2 email accounts, GMail and Hotmail.

I can send and receive OK with Gmail.

However, when I now try to access Hotmail, by clicking send/receive, Hotmail errors out with the following message,

"Unable to poll for new messages on your HTTP server. Account: 'Hotmail', Server: 'http://services.msn.com/svcs/hotmail/httpmail.asp', Protocol: HTTPMail, Server Response: 'Invalid login.', Port: 0, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 122, Error Number: 0x800CCC32".

If I go to MSN, I can log in with the same user id/password that I have in Outlook Express with no problem.

I have deleted and re-added the Hotmail account in Outlook Express with the same results.

Can anyone give me an assist?

    Mike Martin

'Indentities' sub-folder under your '\user profile\Application Data\...' might be corrupted. This is the folder OE uses for each profile used with OE, so try creating a new profile within OE and then re-configure the connection settings and see if it works.

I've read mention of "UPDATES" causing hotmail to stop working with OE, one thought is so that borged computers can't give out spam and viruses through easily manipulated OE via POP access to hotmail. It's worth a shot to check if your profile needs to be re-created though.
