    Purchase vs. Free Anti-Programs

I use the standard free Spyware programs that we all discuss,
SpywareBlaster, Spybot Search & Destroy, SUPERAntiSpyware just to name a
few. These are supposed to be the best, or the better of any available so I
read. Then I see the other programs that sell from $29.95 and up. The ones
that are for sale always entice you with a "Free Scan", which it is, but,
again they show you many, many infections of various sorts (are they there
or not). Now in order to clean up what they found, you have to purchase
    their program.
My question is: What do they provide that the above 3 free ones I listed
above do not? I know nothing about any of the infections, other than I
    don't want any.
I don't want to come across as cheap, but is it really necessary to spend
the money when others are offered at no cost, or just a donation?
I have never seen this discussed, nor any comments either yea or nay.

    Each will be different.

You need to define "...What do they provide...".

    What are "they" ?

I used avg free deal-then I had some unrelated spyware problems and had to
    get a new computer...it came with escan-costs about $25 a year..get rid of
worms -and stuff I have that is of no use... does not clog up
computer..between me and my kids we are on the net 8 hrs a day.. I have
    renewed twice
I am happy with escan-I have a spyware program also
    webroot-about $25 a year..

Any programme that offers you a free scan only (rather then a limited time
trial) is by virtue a scam programme.

SuperAntiSpyware Has both free and paid version. Its quite good tool.
Malwarebytes anti-malware falls in the same category, you can try it
    out too (free version available).

There are too many parasites, and one tool might miss some, even for a
while. Some security experts suggest using more than one remover for
    making sure.
Also, you can easily fall for spyware scams (rogue products) which
claim that they found spyware you have not. So better visit some
review sites to determine whats good, whats not.
    Pros for paid products :

    1. You are entitled for something - support, money back, or maybe even
security expert if software fails. This rarely is done by "free" tool
    companies.
    2. Big companies have resources to include more parasites and faster
    than free scanner manufactures
    3. Reputable/paid remover manufacturers have responsibility for their
database - they cant risk to remove good programs or screw your PC up,
or they will get sued and go out of business quite fast. Most scams
    are short lived.
    4. More features.

    Cons for paid products
    1. Pricing - noone likes to pay for what you can get for "free"
    2. There is less risk to be pushed a product that is bad if they do
not depend on you paying it or not.

I would go with free remover of your choice if there is no problems at
the moment. When you get infection and free products does not help, i
would consult product reviews sites for good paid product or for
specific free solution for parasite you got.

Thanks to everyone for the replies. The pro and cons were very good, and
just about followed my way of thinking. I was afraid I may be overlooking
the oblivious. I am as careful as possible on the web sites I visit, and
with no children on the computers I stay clean, with an exception here and
    there.
    thanks again.

Ron, is McAfee's Site Advisor one of these programs, that once you get it in
your PC it's the devil to get out? Can you do a clean uninstall on it with
    nothing left behind?
    thanks
