What error message do you receive? Do you find any Symantec or Norton files while doing a search of the computer...Not Add/Remove?

When you went into Services and tried the disable of the Symantec entry, did you remember to click Apply Before exiting?

-When I did a search for Norton, I was able to delete everything.

-When I did a search for Symantec, I was able to delete all but one located at crogram files/common files. When trying to delete it says 'Cannot delete vpshell2.dll: Access is denied 8.1.0.825 Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use.'

-Yes, I clicked apply when trying to disable Symantec entry and went in to make sure it was disabled and it is.

    Thanks,
    Nicolette

Have you guys already tried the Norton Removal Tool?

vpshell2.dll can be a pain! Have you tried to remove it in Safe Mode?

If all else fails, we can remove it from the registry so it doesn't load and then you should be able to delete it successfully.

Okay, using the Norton tool removal worked for uninstalling all Norton references in add/change programs.

Still have a Symantec reference in add/change programs. Tried removing using add/change programs and file search in safe mode and no such luck.

I'm not familiar with removing it from the registry--can you please tell me how to do that?

    Thanks,
    Nicolette

    Should be painless . . . I hope

    Let's have a look first:
--Download the attached Peek.bat to your Desktop
    --DoubleClick it to run it
--A log ought to pop up in notepad. Please post that for us.

    Great!

Let's try this and see if it does the job:
-- Download the attached Fixit.zip to your desktop and extract the Fixit Folder to your desktop.
-- Open the Fixit folder an double click on RunThis
That ought to unregister and delete vpshell2.dll. Then, try again to remove that last vestige of Symantec. You might need to reboot.

Let us know of any problems or error messages!

    Best Luck

    PP,

I believe I followed the directions exactly. After clicking on the RunThis, a window looking like it was DOS-based popped up and then I got an error message that said 'Load LIbrary("C:\Program") failed. The specified module could not be found'.

    Thanks,
    Nicolette

Try this - Open the Fixit Folder and DoubleClick on Fixit.reg and allow it to merge into the registry.
Then try again to remove that pesky Symantec remnant.

    PP,

I'm really sorry...am not understanding the directions I don't think. I have an icon that says fixit, but not sure if that is the same as fixit.reg. How do I allow it to merge?

    Thanks,
    Nicolette
