Shutdown lag

Hello again Judy.
Yesterday I uninstalled Norton/symantec,and installed the programs I used in the past(AVG & zonealarm).Before installation of these programs I deleted all files associating with the old antivirus and firewall programs(yes I enabled viewing of hidden files).The problem I am having,is that shutdown now lags something fierce to the point that I almost wonder if the system will shut down.My last attempt to search any remnants,to see if there was anything conflicting with zonealarm,ended with a shutdown that took 17 minutes.I will post any logs if so advised,when time permits.I realize that your time is limited and I will try to get back in either tomorrow or Thursday.If one of the other admins has a trick or two up their sleeve for me to try,any suggestion would be appreciated.As for the system resources that are always asked for.

I still see at least one instance of Norton listed in Services;
O23 - Service: Symantec Lic NetConnect service (CLTNetCnService) - Unknown owner - c:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccSvcHst.exe (file missing).
You should run HJT again and place a checkmark next to the entry and then click the Fix Checked button.
Otherwise I only see quite a few items which are running which don't need to run, some are totally unnecessary and some are programs which can be run manually.
You will have to make the decision on whether to leave enabled or disable them;

Dwm.exe>>>DWM.exe is just the process running glass effects. To stop it, simply disable Glass.

You might have a device driver or a service that is hanging in the background causing the delay, ZoneAlarm is known to do that when the application misbehaves due to your system configuration or the program itself becoming corrupted.

Open registry editor to see if you have the following keys/values if so then set their data to what I show which might also help:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop
> AutoEndTasks = 1
> HungAppTimeout = 3000
> LowLevelHooksTimeout = 3000
> WaitToKillAppTimeout = 3000

I checked and did not find any of those values in the registries ,where you mentioned I might find them.As for the start up items I did disable the ones that made sense,as to not needing them to run until needed.The lag still remains,although is has improved over tweaking the past few days,to where it only takes 5 minutes to shut down completely.The desktop remains onscreen for around 3 minutes before going to the actual shutdown screen.From there it takes somewhere around 2 minutes for the system to power off completely.Since I have confirmed that shutdown does operate properly and the system starts up with no glitches,I think I can live with it,since I no longer have to live with Norton .

Those registry keys are from XP, I thought Vista might have the same but apparently not and since I don't currently use Vista ( ), I won't be able to comment on it further but since you already disabled the startup entries Judy suggested and didn't help, then humor me and uninstal ZoneAlarm and then reboot, then see if the following reboots are delayed as well or not.

So anyways to update the progress.I uninstalled Zonealarm and got rid of all traces of it.I am using windons firewall and the system shuts down a quickly as it was originally supposed to.What part of Zonealarm was hanging up the shutdown procedure is a mystery,but I suspect it has something to do with having Vista as an OS.Thanks again for your time and input.I will wait to see if they put out a version designed for Vista,or somehing else free that is a proven winner comes along.Later and keep up the good fight .
