Have No Clue What to Do... Please Help

    Hi,

Thank you all for trying to help me out.

I have a laptop that has become almost impossible to get running.
I have to do a run cmd shutdown -a to keep it going, and then just barely.

I have tried to install and run the programs and get the log files from the read me first directions, but am not able to get any of them to run completely. AVG will not run because i cannot update, and windows defender cannot run the installer. Spybot search and destroy could not complete and shut itself down.

I was able to run hijackthis. I have attached the log file.

Any help would be greatly appreciated....

    Thank you

    Hi Steve,

At VERY quick glance, I do not see anything in your HJT log except for an old Java version.

Your log is incomplete, though - there should be additional entries to 024 line.

--Have you added any new hardware/software recently?
-- Looks like TWO resident AV programs. PCTools AV and McAfee. They could be in conflict and causing/contributing to the problem. Uninstall one.

If you are able, please do the following:

    • Download combofix.exe by sUBs to your computer's Desktop.
    • Alternate Download
    • (If you already have a previous version, delete it and download a new version).
    • Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
Note: Combofix will automatically disconnect your Internet connection when it runs, do not reconnect it.

When it finishes, it ought to
    • Produce a log for you. ( C:\ComboFix\ComboFix.txt)
    • Restore your Internet connection.

    IMPORTANT:
    • Do not use your computer while Combofix is running.
    • Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.
If you've lost your Internet connection when Combofix has completely finished, re-start your computer to restore it.

Please post that log for us along with a fresh and complete HJT. Let us know if you run into any difficulty.

    Best Luck
    PP

*** Also, please disable SpybotSD's Tea Timer - it tends to "get in the way" of changes, both good and bad...

OK - let me know if you run into trouble with combofix.

BTW- Can you write down some of those running processes for me?

Nothing particularly evil there ('cept the services for the 2 AV programs - that we'd expect to see since this is the original log before uninstall)

Not familiar with PurgPro, though I do know it's legit.

If you are not able to run ComboFix, I have another option. Let me know.

    Hi Steve,

If you want, you can try this:

-- Download the attached PeekabooXP.zip and EXTRACT the PeekabooXP Folder to your desktop.
-- Open the PeekabooXP folder and DoubleClick on RUN THIS.bat to run it and follow the prompt. A log should pop up in Notepad.
    Please submit that for me.

This is an early version of a tool I've been putting together off and on. It is definitely a "Run at your own risk" proposition. But, you should be OK - This package doesn't include any of the potentially dangerous malware cleaning routines in my later versions.

    PP

EDIT - You can extract the folder to wherever is convenient if the desktop is not an option. Just be sure to extract it and not run from inside the ZIP..
