Red face Ok, here's the scoop...

Hello there! I have a few questions to ask before posting any logfiles. I own an HP Pavilion dv6000 notebook with Windows XP SP2 and recently had a problem getting power to it, so thinking the power adapter port needed to be resoldered I took it to a computer specialist in the area. Come to find out all I needed was a new power cable. They also told me that my notebook was infected with trojans and spyware and needed to be reformatted. Well instead of doing a clean install I decided to give the geek forum's clean up instructions a try so here I am. I'm not sure if I was suppose to do as much as I did but I followed the instructions exactly and used them on each user account (there are 4 on this notebook). I took fairly detailed notes and have two logfiles for each account, one for ESET and the other for HTJ. How would you like me to post these notes and logfiles? Should I zip them all? The reason I scanned each user account is because in the past i've noticed that in some instances, making adjustments and fixing problems on one account didn't seem to affect the other. Thank you so much for your time and help, it is much appreciated.

    Zipping them is fine

-- Depending on the nature of the problem(s) and the amount of personal and un-backed up data you would stand to lose, a reformat may indeed be the easiest/quickest way to go.

Hang in there for Judy to have a look.

    Cheers

Thanks for the reply! I honestly don't think it's too bad as far as infection. My scans didn't find very much, I was surprised. There actually wasn't too many noticeable problems with this notebook to begin with, I'm not sure if the PC repair shop was trying to con me into a $200 reformat or not. Thanks again!

Most shops do not do "malware removal," per se. It is quicker and easier for them to do a clean install.
If for some reason you need a new copy of Windows, then $200 sounds about right for the whole job.

-- You didn't attach your zipped logs

Yeah, I can do a clean install but I'm trying at all costs to avoid it. I was going to attach me logs but I have 8 of them. Here have a look see...

Sorry but these files cannot be opened. You will have to post them another way. Please attach them one, by one as .txt files.
