    Virusbusters

    Virusbusters automatically downloaded itself onto my computer. I tried Uninstalling the program by going to Start>Programs>Virusbusters It uninstalled all of the software other then a little icon in the Right hand bottom toolbar located next to the clock. The icon keeps popping up messages saying "critical system errors...Use anti-spyware...". I have ran my Antivirus (Trend Micro Antivirus). It came up with nothing, then i used my anti-spyware program (Ad-Ware SE Personal) and 4 things came up so i followed the proceeder to eliminate them. The icon, however, still remains in the icon bar with the same message appearing every couple minutes. I tried to re-install it and remove it by going to Control Panel>Add & Remove Programs> VirusBusters and still the icon remains in the icon bar. If i got to My computer> Local Disk (C> Program Files > VirusBusters and there is 1 file. Its description is "Anti-spyware and adware virusbust.com". I cannot delete the file or folder because the program is in use in the toolbar. If i right or left click (or click and hold) on the icon it immediately opens the web browser and takes me straight to their homepage. does anyone have any suggestions or ways to get rid of this?

    You really need to go here READ ME Before Posting A Request For Assistance!
    first and follow all of the steps given, and in the order given.
    Once you have completed all those steps then give us a NEW HiJackThis log but be certain that you give us a full log, including the top portion of the log that looks like this;

    Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1
    Scan saved at 15:22:13, on 21/02/2005
    Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)
    MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180)

    If you are using XP then this is the way to get to Safe Mode in XP;
    Exit all programs.

    Click Start > Run.
    In Run dialog box, type the following text:
    msconfig

    Click OK.

    In the System Configuration Utility, on the BOOT.INI tab, check /SAFEBOOT.

    If you still cannot get to Safe Mode then run all the steps in Normal. But if you can get to Safe Mode this way then please do so.

    Click OK.

    When you are asked to restart the computer, click Restart.

    The computer restarts in Safe mode. This can take several minutes.

    After you complete the work in Safe mode, use the System Configuration Utility to start Windows XP in Normal mode.

    Thanks alot for your help Judy I was able to remove the threat from my system. This what I did if any one else has this problem in the future:

    Boot into safemode and run HJT and tick the following and select fix checked:

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {192c5b4a-3efd-40c7-9f99-c472deb8efc0} - C:\Program Files\Perfect Codec\isaddon.dll
    O3 - Toolbar: Protection Bar - {74a49269-9779-48b4-a0e6-3a5af2a3ade6} - C:\Program Files\Perfect Codec\iesplugin.dll

    Find this folder in program files and delete it:

    C:\Program Files\Perfect Codec

    Reopen HJT and open the misc tools section, then click on delete file on reboot. Select that virus file you mentioned above by selecting and clicking open, follow the instructions.

    Restart your PC. If the problem continues then:

    You'll need to run a full system scan using spysweeper and spybot S&D with updated definitions. Sorry I'm not much help but the above tools will remove the threat from your system. These scans will need to be done in safemode.

    Where did you get these instructions? They are incorrect. There are a number of steps which must be done and several specialized tools which must be installed and used to remove this infection. I cannot give instructions to you until I am absolutely certain that your post is legitimate. You say you ran your Anti-virus program, Trend Micro, where is it in your log?
    I need to know that you have completed each and every preliminary step as outlined in the link I gave you and I also need a totally new and COMPLETE HiJackThis scan log.
