My daughter's laptop (XP Home SP2) browser does a redirect to http://view.atdmt.com (http://view.atdmt.com/iview/msnnkhac...0%3Bhi.600/01). It happens regularly when she is at facebook and other web sites.

I ran ad-aware 2007 and avast and the redirect still happens. Below is the HijackThis log.

    Your help is appreciated.

    Hi Mark,

From what I remember, this is an adserver probably in use by Facebook and many others - I think they are called Atlas Solutions or something similar.

You ought to be able to block these via the Hosts file (similar to what Silj has posted in his Sticky Thread at the top of the Forum - or you can just add the one adserver) or via Internet Options in her browser.

I do not recall this being any sort of hijacker or redirector..... However, if you'd like to include a ComboFix log, please follow the steps below:

    • Download combofix.exe by sUBs to the infested computer's Desktop.
    • Alternate Download
    • (If you already have a previous version, delete it and download a new version).
    • Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
Note: Combofix will automatically disconnect your Internet connection when it runs, do not reconnect it.

When it finishes, it ought to
    • Produce a log for you. ( C:\Combofix.txt)
    • Restore your Internet connection.

    IMPORTANT:
    • Do not use your computer while Combofix is running.
    • Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.
If you've lost your Internet connection when Combofix has completely finished, re-start your computer to restore it.

That will give us a much better picture of what is or isn't happening on her machine.

    Cheers
    PP

    Hi Mark,

That log looks OK to me.

If you like, you can remove the foistware that is Viewpoint:
    C:\Program Files\Viewpoint
You can uninstall it Via Add/Remove Programs

-- Also, please go here ---> http://virusscan.jotti.org/ and use the Browse Button at the top of the page to navigate to C:\WINDOWS\system32\8D76E05D08.sys and Upload it for analysis. I doubt it is anything to worry about, but let me know what Jotti finds.

-- Have you tried blocking the adware site? She ought to be able to do this most easily via IE settings.

    I removed Viewpoint.

    I could not find 8d7*.sys in c:\windows\system32

When I tried to block view.atdmt.com in IE it only accepted view.atdmt and atdmt.com; thus, on Facebook it still attempts to redirect to view.atdmt.com.

Also, I added view.atdmt.com 127.0.0.1 to the HOSTs file.

    Any other ideas?

    Thanks
    Mark

Drat! My fault there - doing 10 things at once and I did not mention that this file is hidden. You'll need to Enable the Viewing of Hidden Files to see it.
It is likely a driver that has been on the machine for some time - could very well be legit.

I am not sure - you would probably have better luck exploring this with Google.

I looked in Silj's MVP Hosts File and found a few additional entries you might try. Note that a couple have been disabled due to interference with legit stuff like Hotmail. I probably missed a few...

Maybe Judy or TL or somebody else may have a better idea than I - I am not as up-to-date on the baddies as I used to be....

I updated the hosts file and still have the problem. Attached is a screen shot of the redirect.

I did not see any information on Facebook.

Do you think a system restore using a checkpoint before the problem would solve it?

    Thanks

I may have found a solution. In I.E. I disabled the add-on CBrowserHelper. It's a Dell add-on. I'll let my daughter try it out.

If this works she owes me big time!

    I appreciate your help.

    Hi Mark,

    Happy to try to help!

That's interesting - let me know if it works out.
It still seems to me that the problem is something local to specific sites she visits. I can't see how removing a 404 error redirector will help when there is no 404 error.
Perhaps I am confused - happens a lot these days. LOL!

Anyhoo, I'll keep my fingers crossed
