Is it a permamnet situation that SE users have to update manually?
Please clarify.

Support for Ad-Aware SE expired Dec 31, 2007. There is a new free
program, Ad-Aware 2007 Free:
http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad_aware_free.php
The new program doesn't work on older Windows like 98, etc. and it
introduces a new "service" that runs in XP. Some of us don't want
another windows service running in the background.

Is this new service a resource hog or do you dislike it just on the
principle?

On the principle. Probably an unnecessary principle on my part? Once
they stop offering the manual updates I'll consider the new version. It
never finds anything on my computer and I've got four other programs
that are similar to Ad-Aware SE.

SE was "supposed" to be unsupported as of Dec 31, 07.
LS seems to have swooned to public outcry and have continued releasing
updates for SE for indeterminate period of time.

Does that mean there is no longer a free version available?
