RESOLVED - Slow Startup

Interesting...it still hangs....no fax services are running. The only thing that I can think of is that I did the hack for multiple logons....basically just replacing the termsrv.dll file...but the timeframe doesn't match up at all....

Sheeshh, your autoruns log look the same 2nd time around, you obviously like your startup as bloated as possible! Especially entries like Qtime and Carpserv...what a waste of system bootup time and resource afterwards...

Also, what is the deal with replacing the Teminal server .dll file? Why was it replaced and also how was it replaced? It sounds like you been messing around with your system a bit too much!

Having concurrent logons for whatever reasons would also cause a bit of a performance hit. Have you tried running Bootvis?

What other cool utility to help you monitor what is being loaded (service/driver wise) is LoadOrder.

I have disabled a LOT of things at startup...it's wierd that autoruns doesn't reflect that in the log...

I've had quicktime disabled. carpserv I have yet to disable...I'm going back to dialup this week, and really don't want to change it back just to change it again...

I replaced the termsrv.dll file with an earlier version before MS took the concurrent logons off. I know a few people who have done this w/o issues both of which I trust very much and don't have any problems.

I will check out those utilities when I get a chance. Hopefully sometime tomorrow, but if not, by thanksgiving.


And believe me...I don't send trojans, and actually very much hate them :P :P - nice try though.

Here is what Load Order found. I am still working on bootvis...

I will scan through the loadorder log as time permits but the initial scan didn't show anything significantly off place.

Bootvis > Trace > Optimize System option could also help improve the bootup by modifying the startup services and drivers, so do that as soon as you get a chance.

Also take a look at this.

Remember, at best case scenario, each and every startup entry adds minimum 1-2 seconds to your startup after the login (loading of user profile) is initiated. So, it does make sense to be picky with what you allow in the startup section...

Well, I've disabled ZA at startup...that seems to have sped it up a little more...now it's down to about 25 seconds of NOTHING....I am going to run bootvis optimization right now and I'll report back.

Ok, so I did Bootvis optimization, and it seems to move just a touch faster. I have disabled a few more things also.

I have attached SS of Autoruns and Event viewer. I am going to check and see if remove ZA completely will take care of it.

Also, out of curiousity, you might want to unplug any external drives, devices, etc. you might have connected as well as unplugging the network cable at the beginning of bootup to see if things speed up or not.

I can't tell if this is caused by a buggy/resource hogging application, a misbehaving service or device driver or some system corruption but the Autoruns screenshot (the part you captured) didn't reveal anything off.
Can you attach the Autoruns log as a text file instead of the screenshot?

Also, have you tried disabling the startup of Deamon Tools just to see if there was a change?

I am HOPEFULLY getting everything moved tonight and I am going to take my computer apart and clean it physically as it needs it...but I'll check when I move it. For now, here is my autoruns log attached.

Well, for some reason it cuts WAY down w/o any network connections. It starts up almost instantaneously. But as soon as I plug in my Cat cable it takes a while again. I'm not sure if it's with my computer or my router...I think I am going to try my other router and see if that helps....

That is unless you have some ideas?

I truly am not familiar with routers, BUT, having read on many other sites the difficulties some have, I am leaning towards the router...
At least you HAVE narrowed it down that far though, which is more than you had before.
