    Thumbs up RESOLVED - Slow Startup

    Man, I feel horrible having to do this all the time...this is the THIRD help thread I've started since the DB "accident"....

    The problem THIS time: When I turn my computer on, it goes through it's normal boot up fine....but the first time I log on, the computer takes literally over one full minute to load everything up, and I know for a fact, something is hanging or not working right when I startup, but for the life of me I can't figure out what...I've racked my brains and all of my utilities....none of my scans find anything wrong, and everything else is perfect, except for startup.

    Any help is appreciated. I have attached my HJT log, and the longest period of time between event viewer items (you'll see what I mean when you look).

    evtvwrmain is a screenshot capturing ALL of the entries for that particular startup (which happens to be the most recent one)

    evtvwr1 is where the pause begins

    evtvwr2 is where the pause ends and everything goes back to normal....

    Is this something stupidly simple that I'm missing or what?

    I know PP is helping you but here is my $0.02 worth :

    ~~~ I would personally get rid of all these startup process, I excluded the security related ones but the rest are far from needed unless you really want/need it at startup?
    I suggest you go thru the list below and eliminate as many as you can but your call of course...
    HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
    + BrMfcWnd Brother Status Monitor MFC Application c:\program files\brother\brmfcmon\brmfcwnd.exe
    + CARPService carpserv Conexant Systems, Inc. c:\windows\system32\carpserv.exe
    + ControlCenter3 ControlCenter Program Brother Industries, Ltd. c:\program files\brother\controlcenter3\brctrcen.exe
    + DAEMON Tools-1033 Virtual DAEMON Manager DAEMON'S HOME d:\program files\d-tools\daemon.exe
    + NeroFilterCheck NeroCheck Ahead Software Gmbh c:\windows\system32\nerocheck.exe
    + nTrayFw File not found: D:\PROGRA~1\NVIDIA~1\NETWOR~1\bin\nTrayFw.exe
    + NVMixerTray NVIDIA nForce Mixer Tray Application NVIDIA Corporation c:\program files\nvidia corporation\nvmixer\nvmixertray.exe
    + QuickTime Task QuickTime Task Apple Computer, Inc. d:\program files\quicktime\qttask.exe
    + RemoteControl PowerDVD RC Service Cyberlink Corp. d:\program files\cyberlink\powerdvd\pdvdserv.exe
    + SetDefPrt BrStDvPt Brother Industories, Ltd. d:\program files\brother\brmfl06a\brstdvpt.exe
    + WinFast Schedule WinFast Wizard Leadtek Research Inc. c:\program files\winfast\wftvfm\wfwiz.exe
    + Adobe Reader Speed Launch.lnk Adobe Acrobat SpeedLauncher Adobe Systems Incorporated c:\program files\adobe\acrobat 7.0\reader\reader_sl.exe
    + WarpSpeeder Tray Icon.lnk c:\program files\warpspeeder\bstrayicon.exe
    ~~~ This should be safe to delete:
    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\She ll Extensions\Approved
    + Display Panning CPL Extension File not found: deskpan.dll

    ~~~ I guess you preferred ProcessExplorer to replace Task Manager:
    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options
    + taskmgr.exe Sysinternals Process Explorer Sysinternals d:\my documents\programs\process explorer\procexp.exe
    Also, as good as ZoneAlarm is, I have seem it become a major resource hog and even cause problems on certain systems.
    May be switching to a relatively lighter firewall utility might make a difference too especially if the boot/performance problems started after installing ZoneAlarm otherwise disregard..
    The more help the better :P As long as I get this resolved.
    As for the removal at startup, nothing in this list is new, and was here before the problem started:
    BrMfCwnd status mon
    - I wasn't sure about that. It's for my printer, but if you believe it safe to remove, I'll try to remove it.
    CARPService
    - I don't know about this one. It's for my modem, and I know that much...sometimes I may have to use dialup, that's the only reason it's there.
    ControlCenter3 - Again, for the printer, but I have this disabled at startup....or so I thought...
    Daemon Tools
    - I am keeping this, some games just run that much faster w/o the actual CD.
    NeroFilterCheck - I'm not sure what this does, but I use Nero quite often, and haven't had any problems with it.
    nTrayFw - I just delted all of the software for my Nvidia firewall crap. This is a remnant that I missed. It's gone now.
    NVMixerTray - I KNOW this has to do with either sound or LAN again. But I'm not sure which...but it's probably alright to delete it.
    QuickTime - I have already disabled this one at bootup (ie. unchecked it in autoruns).
    RemoteControl PowerDVD - I guess this one I don't really need either...I don't watch many DVD's on my computer. I will disable it now.
    SetDefPrt BrStDvPt - I know this is also for my printer, but exactly what for, I don't know...any thoughts appreciated.
    WinFast schedule
    - This is very annoying, but in the program I didn't see a way to disable it at startup, but it's getting disabled now.
    Adobe Reader Speed Launch
    - I use adobe frequently, but I can disable this. It's not like PDF files won't work with it disabled...
    WarpSpeeder - This one is my system monitor/OC utility. Leaving this for now.
    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\She ll Extensions\Approved
    + Display Panning CPL Extension File not found: deskpan.dll
    ^ I've tried to delete that multiple times, but it won't go away...any ideas?
    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Image File Execution Options
    + taskmgr.exe Sysinternals Process Explorer Sysinternals d:\my documents\programs\process explorer\procexp.exe
    Process explorer is now my bestest friend when it comes to system monitoring utils.
    And as for ZA. I have had this installed for almost a full month with no problems. I mean it "might" be an update, but to my knowledge that's not the culprit.
    Thanks for the help, and I'm awaiting the next round of inquires
    I, too, use Process Explorer instead of task manager! Far more versatile!
    -- Gotta agree with TL for the most part. None of that stuff he listed needs to be running on startup.
    -- I don't have a problem with Zone Alarm. Keep it
    -- Don't see anything major there. I always wonder about Daemon Tools. They (if memory serves) use rootkit-type technology to get around copy protection. (some of their drivers show in your autoruns log) You might want to try uninstalling that and see if the issues continue. Kinda a "trial and error" approach . . .
    -- What about automatic updates? Are you set up to automatically download updates - IE7, for instance? Just a thought...
    (aaaghh - I forgot you already have IE7 installed . . . ) - - - - Could that be part of the problem?? I installed IE7 and it borked my desktop, of all things, so I uninstalled it.
    Did slow startup coincide with IE7 install?
    Yes, process explorer is much better.
    I think this weekend or shortly after I move I am going to go through startup and see what works when I disable it and what doesn't..
    Me neither...I was NEVER a big firewall person b/c they were a PITA to configure, but I've got mine set right...finally...
    Daemon tools, I'll try that later...I have to make sure that I have the exe for it, which I'm sure I do...I doubt that's the culprit but I'll try it.
    And IE7....you know what....I'm not 100% sure on that one...it might've, and it would make sense that it appears to be internet related hanging at startup....I'll try that one when I get home and update with what happens. In the meantime if anybody has any other suggestions, let me know.
    I'll update tonight.
    Yeah - I think a "trial and error" session using msconfig might be the way to go. Real PITA and time consuming, but I doubt there is a malware issue in play, and there really isn't a better way to deal with legit programs (cept perhaps studying PE when the hanging occurs).
    TL may have better ideas than I . . . .
    It would not surprise me to find IE7 as the culprit. Ha! Do you even use it?
    I never really liked Internet Explorer. I mainly use Mozilla Firefox, but I have the latest version, 2.0, but I'm going to go back to 1.5.x because those version never really froze when I started it up.
    I think 2.0 can't handle the speed of my computer and Internet.
