Outlook express / Email client (RESOLVED)

    Hi

Not quite sure how to describe my problem but will give it a try and hopefully someone will perhaps understand and be able offer some advice/assistance.
I am attaching a screenshot of the properties being used by OE.

Whenever I open OE and read mail, when (if) by chance I go to my actual email inbox the messages have been deleted. To the best of my recollection when I previously had another email client I did not experience this prob.
Am I dreaming or am I doing something wrong now that I have another email client. Previously I used AOL.

Perhaps someone is able to decypher what I am trying to say.

You say previously you used AOL and the mail stayed in your AOL inbox, even if you read it. This is because it is an online mailbox. When you use Outlook Express the mail is downloaded FROM your online mailbox ONTO the computer, thus emptying the online mailbox. That is why there is nothing there. You will need to go to the online mail program and check the preferences there. There may be an option to Leave A Copy on the Server, even if you use a mail program which downloads mail to the computer...like Outlook Express, Outlook or any other "on the computer" mail program.

If your problem is as described above by judy, you can set the setting in outlook express as well.

Go to Tools > Accounts > (select your mail account) > Properties > Advanced (tab)

Then down at the bottom you'll see a heading called "Delivery" and under here are 3 checkboxes.

Check the first one: "Leave a copy of messages on server"

Then you can specify options for how long. I'd recommend setting one of those options as most email providers have a limit of space on their servers that you can use, and if you go over that limit, you could have issues with your email.

    Hope this helps.

    EDIT****

Attached is a screenshot of what I'm referring to.

I know you were. That was just what I typed in to get a screenshot. I don't use OE for anything so I had to put something in there to get my screenshot.

That's what I get for working tech support at an ISP for 1.5 years...
