Give me more info about the computer...hard drive size, how much RAM installed?
When it shuts down does it power down completely or just restart?

That isn't very much RAM for the hard drive size and what you have running on the computer.
Give me the make and model of the computer though it sounds as if it may be a power problem.

    Make & Model

Its a Viscom V2 Premier. It seems to shut down every time I try to run Spybot or Norton.

Have you tried running the scans in Safe Mode?

It won't let me start the computer in safe mode. I was wrong about the #'s. It has 512 MB DDR Memory and 200 GB Western Digital EIDE Hard Drive

Did you use this method to attempt to boot to safe mode:
    Using the F8 Method
    1. Restart your computer.
    2. When the machine first starts again it will generally list some equipment that is installed in your machine, amount of memory, hard drives installed etc. At this point you should gently tap the F8 key repeatedly until you are presented with a Windows XP Advanced Options menu.
    3. Select the option for Safe Mode using the arrow keys.
    4. Then press enter on your keyboard to boot into Safe Mode.
What happens when you try to boot to safe mode?

It just shows a bunch of dos info and stays there - Windows does not open.

I went back and printed out the "Read Me Before Posting A Request for Assistance" and I downloaded all of the stuff. Step 2 says to run Microsoft Windows defender - When I click the link it says Page cannot be displayed. Step 6 says to run the Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - but when I click on the link it says "Page cannot be displayed"

In the dos info if you use the arrow keys you can go up and choose safe mode
