Ok, I did the suggested fixes with hjt also went through the steps to turn off teatime and restarted spybot to insure teatime was not checked. When I.E. is clicked a message comes up saying you are not connected and giving buttons to either work off-line or another saying try again. When try again is selected the home page comes up but the normal fields for iGoogle(my homepage) do not load. Also hotmail will not load.
I.E. is still slow, sidebar gadgets don't work,
Is it possible to get rid of Vista and reload XP, or is it illadvised?
Still this page "additional options" does not have the "manage attachments" option.
It seems I must have turned off something by mistake.

Are you saying this computer originally had XP on it?

Sorry, no it has had Vista from the start, I just don't much care for Vista and prefer XP.

Just stepping back and taking a look at the problems I am having most if not all are Internet Explorer related.

The box that appears when connection is attempted says

    Work Offline

No connection to the internet is currently available. To view Internet content that has been saved on your computer, click "Work Offline".
Click "Try Again" to connect to the internet.
Clicking "Work Offline" gives the message, The webpage is unavailable because you are offline.
(The connection indicator shows a good connection)
Clicking "Try Again", connects to the internet.
Clicking on the "Tools" Button just after the Work Offline box appears does give the "Diagnose Connection Problems" as a possible selection but it is not highlighted and selectable.

I went on down to the Vista section in the troubleshooting page. It says to click the start button and select "Run", there is no "Run" to select. I went to "Search" and typed in the program which was to be "Run" Nothing was found

In I.E. when it does come up it will not display iGoogle contents. Also will not connect to Hotmail.

Opened the Firefox Browser and have no problems.

How about reinstalling Internet Explorer, Is that a possibility?

One quick thing to try that can fix some "Internet Explorer is not responding" messages is to

In IE go to Tools > Internet Option Under the "Advanced" tab, press the "RESET" button at the lower right.

    See if this helps

Another thing to try is this:
    Control Panel
    Network and Internet
    Internet Option
    Click on "Security Tab"
    Uncheck "Enable Protected Mode"

I unchecked protected mode and I.E. comes up. Still can't get hotmail.com but other sites come up. iGoogle has no contents. Sidebar has no contents.

    Since I don't use Vista or have a sidebar this is all a search exercise for me here. Here is one thing I have found;
This behavior is observed if the XML registration is missing in the system. To fix the problem, use the following steps:

    * Close Windows Sidebar. To do so, right-click on the Sidebar icon in the Notification area and click Exit
    * Open an elevated Command Prompt window. To do so, click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as administrator.
    * In the Command Prompt window, type the following and press ENTER:

    regsvr32 msxml3.dll

    Similarly, run these commands:

    regsvr32 scrrun.dll

    regsvr32 jscript.dll

If the registration was successful, you'll see the message DllRegisterServer in <filename> succeeded for each command executed. Open Windows Sidebar (sidebar.exe) and check if the problem is resolved.

    Also sounds as if either your Java is to blame in IE7...maybe disabled or a "broken file" in the browser cache is stopping you from seeing iGoogle page...try this;
    1. From the Tools menu, select Internet Options... .
    2. Choose the General tab.
    3. Under Browsing history, click Delete... .
    4. Next to "Temporary Internet Files", click Delete files... .
    5. Click Close, and then click OK to exit.
Then use File, Exit on the upper left to close IE7. Then open it up and see if this helps.
All of these problems you are having point probably to a downloadable "gadget" in the browser or sidebar. These all are extra add-ons and do develop trouble from time to time. Obviously the problem lies somewhere in IE7 since you say that Firefox works fine.

Thanks very much for all your time and help. How do I uninstall and reinstall Internet Explorer? If I can't get I.E. working properly, I may just use another browser. Can you recommend a Browser?
