    Unhappy Hijackthis Log Help

Needing help!……My computer randomly has windows pop open that are from the operating system, like start menu, desktop property and the mouse cursor frequently will randomly fly around the screen and open additional windows or lock up for 20 seconds then start working again. Keystrokes will also lock up then start working again. Sometimes when the cursor stops working the system freezes up permanently until hard reboot.

I have restored system many times, then erase/reformatted hard drive still did not fix problem, then used a program that as I understand zero fills or xo fills every space on the hard to help ensure no trace of anything can be left over still did not fix the problem. When I reformat etc it seems to slow down the frequency of this problem but soon its right back to its tricks several times within a ˝ hours timeframe.

Any ideas????? I’m feeling like I may have to buy a new hard drive.

My log file include chatwatch, guardian monitor and besafe. I purchased all theses about 1 year ago to keep tabs on our teenager. They’ve never caused me a problem. I use AVG, Spysweeper, Spybot search and destroy and Adaware.

I can not do an online Trend Micro House call scan. I can not fully get XP updates/patches and I tried to download trial of spydoctor to see if it could find anything extra and it will not let me run the application it opens then sits frozen

Your system is woefully way out of date. Your Java program is way out of date also.
You are not showing any firewall running on the system.
When you did all this system restoring and reformatting and writing 0's to the hard drive and then reinstalling XP you should have done ALL Windows updates, including updating to XP SP2 and updating hardware drivers BEFORE adding any other software to the system. This would include your anti-virus program, anti-spyware programs, your "teenwatch" programs too.

I have no idea about the actual computer itself...hard drive size, how much RAM is installed but you have a multitude of unnecessary programs running all the time and at start up. This alone could cause system freezes and stop you from running the online scans too.

I don't feel the hard drive is bad...just badly reformatted and reinstalled with out of date software.

Your best bet here, I think anyway, is probably do another reformat and reload of XP ...a simple one, NOT writing zero's to the drive. Once you have reformatted then go to the Windows Update page and do ALL the Critical updates you have not done...including SP2. Then install your printer and whatever other hardware you have installed. Next put on your anti-virus program and firewall. Then SpyBot, SpywareBlaster forget the AdAware2007...it seems to cause more problems than benefit.

    AFTER
doing all that then try the computer for a few days and see how it runs. If all is well then, and only then, then install ONE of the "teenwatch" programs you have on the computer NOT ALL THREE....
You are over taxing your computer with all of these. BSafe Online and Guardian Monitor do EXACTLY THE SAME THING, including monitoring EXACTLY THE SAME IM PROGRAMS and in the same way that ChatWatch does.

From what I could find BSafe Online seems to get the highest rating. But the choice is yours CHOOSE ONE and get rid of the other two. Using these programs is fine but you should follow the same rules with these as is recommended with anti-virus programs and firewalls...ONLY ONE of each on your computer. Using more than one actually taxes the system and more than likely lessens protection.

If you want to try without the reformat then remove those three programs...UNINSTALL them properly following their instructions, probably via Add/Remove and then try to do the Windows Updates and see if they can be done. If not then you will probably have to reformat and begin again.

OK thanks, I will try reformat again and you other recommendations. Last time directly after reformat I tried to update XP and it would not let me fully update so I'll try again. Do it so I just then loaded my other programs.

    Thanks
