help needed??? mozilla thunderbird set up???

g'day friends,

i have installed mozilla thunderbird.

what i want to do is use it to cut the spam mail i get through my web
host, not my isp who already blocks spam.

so far there is no reduction in spam from my web host e/mail account,
so i figure i haven't set it up properly, so need the helps of more
experienced computer users or thunderbird users?

i think my problem is to do with the <pop> and return <smtp> set up
part of the program??

i also don't understand how thunderbird works?

if i can itterate i need to moniot only the e/mail from my account i
have with my web host.

Turn off the catch-all address.

thunderbird is another mail reader program, as it appears to me now?

don't need another reader.

looking for a spam stopper program say like the anti-virus programs
that monitor my e/mails coming in for viruses.

so is there a spam filtering program that can do the same?

Thunderbird has a built-in spam (Junk) filter. It works quite well, and
trains itself as you go. For the few that make it to your Inbox, you
highlight the header of the email, and click the Junk button.

You can further configure the Junk folder to self-delete anything in it
after [ nn ] days. I have mine set to [ 2] days.

Have you been to Tools > Account Settings and gone to the Junk Settings
and turned it **ON**? Also set it to reroute junk mail to the Junk
folder. You can also then right-click on the new Junk folder (in the
left pane), pick Properties and make intelligent options there.

You don't need to scan Incoming (or Outgoing) mail. As long as your
anti-virus program is running resident, it will prevent you from
executing any known virus attachments.

Perhaps, but you don't need it.

Doesn't MailWasher only work with OE? Len has Thunderbird. And
MailWasher has that nasty "bouncer" that people go crazy with, sending
bounce messages to the other spam victims whose addresses were forged in
the FROM field. That is *truly* nasty.

Do note in his original post, he said his ISP filters spam quite well.
The ones he is complaining about are from the address associated with
his web site.

I'm still waiting for him to answer that he has in fact blackholed the
"catch-all" address in the mail settings at his host's control panel.
That should cure his problem.

I've never had a spam problem so I don't know exactly how it works. I
just knew there were some free spam blocker/remover products there.

ok how then can i reduce the amount of spam mail that comes into my
inbox daily without the need to continually multiple times a day
delete spam mail from the same source??

i understand i have virus protection but want i want to do is block
this spam mail in the first instant.

i think i laready have mail washer but not active might be i take
anther look at it?

i use forte agent as my reader but the version i currently have
doesn't seem to block spam mail as the older versions did, even though
multiple times a day i am filtering much spam mail??
