boot to a dos prompt and type fdisk /mbr

assuming the dos boot disk you use had the fdisk utility.

Have you checked your bios to make sure it's set to boot from the floppy before the hard drive? If your bios is set to boot the floppy first and it still won't boot to a dos prompt, your problem goes deeper than a corrupted mbr. The next thing I would check after the bios would be that the dos floppy was intact and also that the floppy drive was actually operating properly. Personally I have not used a floppy drive in over 2 years, but when I was using them they were a constant source of trouble. They either seemed to fail or wouldn't read disks written from other floppy drives etc, etc, etc........It's probably too late now since your comp is down, but i would try to burn a bootable cd with dos when you get the chance.

The last thing I can think to try is a linux live cd that allows you to specify alternate boot partitions. ie. put it in the drive let it boot to the options screen and then specify your windows or linux partition. If this doesn't work, you could boot the live cd and then try to re-install grub or maybe even lilo to get your windows partition back.

**edit** I just realized that you don't have a windows partition to boot to. It's gotta be an fdisk /mbr fix, check your bios to make sure it boots your floppy first. Also, a linux live cd can be a life saver in these situations.
