Control Panel Gone

Hi I lost control panel about a couple days ago and now its telling me that when I try to add/remove programs "I need to contact system administrator due to restrictions set on this computer. I downloaded a trojan I believe that is called win32/hostblock. I did do a scan with Hijackthis but I see thats not up to date. Please help before this problem gets any worse!! Thanks in advance to whatever help I can get. I have windows XP sp2. Dimension E310.

You have multiple trojans on the system, not just one.
You MUST do the steps in the link that ~TL gave you AFTER you do this;
You also have a Smitfraud infection.
Removal Instructions:

1. Print out these instructions as we will need to close every window that is open later in the fix.

2. Download SmitfraudFix.exe from here and save it to your desktop:

Confirm that the file SmitfraudFix.exe now resides on your desktop, but do not double-click on the icon as of yet. We will use it in later steps

# Next, please reboot your computer into Safe Mode by doing the following:

1. Restart your computer

2. After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.

3. Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear

4. Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

5. When you are at the logon prompt, log in as the same user as you usually do.

4. When your computer has started in safe mode and you see the desktop.

5.Close all open Windows.

6. Now, double-click on the SmitFraudfix icon that should be residing on your desktop
7. You will now see a menu in a blue dos screen. Press the number 2 on your keyboard and the press the enter key to choose the option Clean (safe mode recommended).


8. The program will start cleaning your computer and go through a series of cleanup processes. When it is done, it will automatically start the Disk Cleanup
9. This program will remove all Temp, Temporary Internet Files, and other files that may be leftover files from this infection. This process can take up to a few hours depending on your computer, so please be patient. When it is complete, it will close automatically and you will should continue with step 11.

10. When Disk Cleanup is finished, you will be presented with an option asking Do you want to clean the registry ? (y/n). At this screen you should press the Y button on your keyboard and then press the enter key.


11. When this last routine is finished, you will be presented with a red screen stating Computer will reboot now. Close all applications. You should now press the spacebar on your computer. A counter will appear stating that the computer will reboot in 15 seconds. Do not cancel this countdown and allow your computer to reboot.

12. Once the computer has rebooted, you will be presented with a Notepad screen containing a log of all the files removed from your computer. Examine this log, and when you are done, close the Notepad screen. Please Save This Log. We will need to see this. If it is easier for you save it to the desktop.

Your computer should now be free of the SmitFraud infection.

Next go to the link that ~TL gave you above. Follow ALL the steps given there and once you have completed those post back here with the requested logs.

Your Java is way out of date and you will need to up date that for sure. Current version is 6 update 3.
I will give you instructions on how to do this as we get farther along.

Here is my latest log! I cleaned it with smitfraud fix and also with norton anti-virus. Also tried Ad-ware. Let me know what you find out cause I still cant access my control panel. Its not in my start up menu. I d like to get it running normal again. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Right Click Start, Choose Properties, Then choose the Advanced Tab. Check to see that there IS a dot in Control Panel Display as a Link.

Your HJT log still shows signs of Trojans. You say you have scanned with your Anti-virus program and with AdAware...where are the logs from the scans requested in the link given you?
Namely a Kaspersky log and a scan and cleaning with AVG Anti-spy? You have to do ALL the steps not just the ones you choose to do. While AdAware is an ok program that was not one of those noted in the link.
I ask you to go back to the link given, do ALL the steps requested and then post back here with ALL the logs requested.
Also, it does not appear that you are using a firewall, this is a must. If you don't have one then at least use the built in Windows firewall.
