If even the vendors realized what a pos Vista is and started offering XP roll-back as an option to the customers, that should make you understand that "you do not have to...".
Anyhow, I didn't mean to jack the thread so I won't continue any further, hopefully you will get this fella's issue resolved since I will not be any help.
So anyways TL,since you mentioned that Vista is nothing more than a glorified windows ME.I have recently upgraded computer systems from ME to Vista.It has a few bugs but otherwise is not all that difficult to navigate.The main reason I am posting here is to address what ronsgto said about RAM.I have 3 gigs on my system and Vista and a few other programs are using pretty much a gig of that.If you have the ability to upgrade your Ram,I would suggest that you do so.I have installed nothing that starts up with the system as of yet,so I can attest that Vista is a resource hog.So if you only have a gig of ram there might be a few issues there if you have a few too many start up programs.
