    Blocking doubleclick permanently

Everytime I scan for spyware I got doubleclick.com. Everytime I look
    in cookies, I got doubleclick.com.
And I do not go to sites that are any real threat. Most are just my
discussion groups and some searches for downloads and such,

How can I completely and permanently block doubleclick.com?

They are just tracking cookies, and not real malware.

However, add the doubleclick servers to your HOSTS file.

Does the HOSTS file work in Firefox and Opera?
I know it's for IE. I have all 3 browsers installed and use the one
that best suits what I'm doing.

    Thanks to everyone that helped.

It works for all modern browsers. It is not an IE-thing. It is also not
a Windows thing; other operating systems use it as well.

Install the MVPS hosts file on your computer. It blocks most
doubleclick servers, along with thousands of other tracking and
advertising sites. It does this by preventing the page you are viewing
from sending info TO doubleclick. It will not block anything coming
    FROM doubleclick.

MVPS HOSTS file is a free download from:
    http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/

You can find installation instructions there, also.

I have found in the past, a large host files can slow down the system quite
    a bit
