Not to answer the question, but if your are going with freeware I
forgot to mention "Windows Defender" from Microsoft.

Only works with Windows XP or "higher" can be easily Googled and
installed from Microsoft's website.

But Nod32 is a good antivirus.... AVG as of late become actually quite
irritating, with its obsession with scanning all the time. The opt out for
'if missed start immediately when computer starts' does not work, and hasnt
done for at least six months.This can be a major issue for slower machines,
when every time the computer is switched on, it grinds to a halt.

But, Spy Sweeper is the best.

My point is, you asked why pay for spyware protection because there
are so many free programs out there.

The same holds true for anti-virus programs, does it not?

But, thats because the general public are not aware of the free alternative.
The vast majority of 'at home' users use Mcafee and Norton products, despite
them being truly awful.
