Thread: which, if any spyware program?

    which, if any spyware program?

I am running NOD32 and an NAT firewall.

Would it be wise to run a spyware program as well?

If so, which one. I had trouble with superantispyware
because it cannot adjust to large fonts in Windows and the
update window doesn't display properly. A poor piece of
programming - I need to look elsewhere.

Webroot seems to now insist upon including an AV and I'm
very happy with NOD32 and have no wish to change.

The last time I used Spyware Doctor, about 2 years ago, it
seemed heavy on resources and it ate cookies it wasn't
    supposed to touch :-)

What is recommended at this point?

    TIA

    Louise

IMO, *nothing* is better than Webroot Spy Sweeper.

Does it use some memory, yes, but not *nearly* as much as Spyware
Doctor (which I use for a scanner since someone gave it to me for
free). I've been using Spyware Terminator (freeware) for realtime
protection for the past 3 wks since my Spy Sweeper subscription
    expired.

You can get SS 5.5 w/o their "antivirus" program. Also, if you
download their scanner and give them a valid email address they will
start to offer you discounts on their product.

They sent me a email offering it to me for $25, $20, and now 3 weeks
    later, it's down to $15..(regular price $30)

I got another email today and the price was $20.

Why would someone pay for antispyware with the excellent free software
available? superantispyware, avg antispyware and spyware blaster will cover
pretty much all problems, for stubborn little sods that wont go away,
    hijackthis and smitfraudremfix.

    Not true.

A friend on mine had HotBar installed on their computer and NONE of
the free programs would remove it. Even "CA" which is payware, but
comes free with Road Runner, wouldn't even remove it. All the
    freebies
(including CA) would detect it, but wouldn't remove it.

Since I had a subscription to Spy Sweeper at the time I downloaded
it on his computer, not only did it find over FIVE HUNDRED traces
of HotBar, it also REMOVED it.(HotBar is a "toolbar")

So the freebies are freebies for a reason.

On the OTH, free programs are just fine for most people that use Site
Advisor and don't download stupid crap. I recommend Spyware Terminator
because it has realtime protection, something that the other freebies
    don't offer.

BTW, the OP is using NOD32, why use that when there are so many
    free anti-virus programs available?
