Using a Linksys WRT54G as wired extension to wireless network

    Okay, here's the problem:

I have one cable jack, one Linksys cable modem/router, one Linksys WRT54G router, and two computers that need access to the internet.

The cable jack is not in the same room as either of the computers, but one has a wireless network card.

I have my cable modem/router plugged in in one room with a 64-bit encryption running with an ip address of 192.168.1.1.

The computer with a wireless card has an ip address of 192.168.1.3.

Can I put the WRT54G in the room with the other computer and have it receive the wireless signal and connect the non-wireless computer to it with a network cable?

    If so, how?

If I'm understanding right, that should be possible by setting the wireless router as an access point instead of a router. I can't say anything in the way of specifics, but maybe another member with more experience with this can.

    EDIT*************

HOLD UP! If you move the WRT54G into the room with the computer, how are you going to broadcast the wireless signal from the modem/router? Is the linksys wirless also?

If so, the easiest way to do it, would be to buy a wireless card for the desktop. You can buy USB cards, or PCI cards.
