This reminds me of a horrible compaq experience I had with a friend's machine. The motherboard had this purple AGP slot, I just could not get the video card to work. I ended up quitting and just bringing the machine to Staples where they bought it.

Turns out, on compaqs, if the slot is purple, it means the motherboard does not support AGP. Just cheaper to make the board go through the same set of factory processes or something, I suppose.
