    forgot admin password

This is one of those things that only happens to other people, right?
Well, I've tried all of the ones I remember ever using with no luck.
I want to start up in safe mode, but it wants the PW.
In the acct I always use, My computer mostly runs fine, but is a bit slow. Sometimes it locks up if I run too many things at once.( not normal)
Is there a way to reset the admin PW without reinstalling windows?

Due to the possibilities of such info being used for hacking/invading privacy, we do not provide support for resetting administrator passwords.

You might try searching through support.microsoft.com

As for the machine running slower than usual; most of the fixes require work to be done while logged in as administrator, however, there could be unnecessary applications running in the background related to that particular user account.

You CAN reduce the number of things running in the background while logged into that user account, as well as checking to see if there's any baddies installed; Follow the instructions listed here to see if that helps identify any problems..

If you could provide a list of things running in "startup" via a Hijack this log, we might be able to help you identify unnecessary startup items that could be disabled, in an effort to speed up the machine.

If you have the disc, cd-key and COA, you might try contacting microsoft regarding the password.

Theres ways to crack it with a Linux boot cd but I've never tried tbh so I don't know how but sure its not very hard. Your best bet is boot up with a Linux boot CD, get all your data (NTFS permissions are nullified with Linux) then do a format. A simple reinstall/repair *may* fix it, but it might ask for the password.

    cauzomb,
I understand your position. Although it is my machine, you have no way of knowing that.
