How do I effectively remove my virus??

    Hi All,

My computer is definitely infected with something. It's extremely slow and I get pop ups when I go to different sites. I've looked at these forums and tried deleting some files but the popups come back!
Can someone tell me exactly how I can remove the virus ??
Here is my log and a big thanks for helping!

BTW, I am running: VMWare, Apache, AVG...

You need to run the steps given here READ ME Before Posting A Request For Assistance!
including items noted which must be run in safe mode. Once you have completed all steps there then post back here with an AVG Anti-spy log, and a Kaspersky online scan log and a new HiJackThis log.

I went through every detail in the README Before Posting sticky, and the results are... I still have the same popups slowing down my computer

I have both FireFox and IE installed but the popups only come up when I use IE and go to a new website.

My hijackthis log file is attached and is also referenced here:
    http://hjt.networktechs.com/parse.php?log=402008
I stopped all taskbar items before running but some services run automatically and are not in taskbar (apache, remote desktop, ipod service)

AVG Anti-Spyware found only cookies (Complete system scan).
Windows Defender found nothing (Full scan).

Can someone please let me know how I can go about killing this spyware!?
    Anxiously awaiting your responses.
    Thank you! (please help)

Nothing is showing in your HJT log to indicate any infection. The onlly thing of note is I don't see an active firewall.

Don't use the analyzer here, it has not been updated in ages.

Did you run the Kaspersky online scanner? This will not fix anything but will produce a log so that we can see infections present.

Was the AVG Anti-spy run in SAFE MODE?
Exactly...what do these pop-ups say that open up in IE? They probably don't open with Firefox because it has a pop-up blocker. There is one on IE7 do you have it turned on?

jholland, thank you for taking a look at my HJT log.

I did run the AVG-Anti Spyware in Safe Mode.
The pop ups are for Party poker...and some others I can't recall.

After reading your post I turned on the IE pop-up blocker and haven't had any more, even though I selected to get notified when one is blocked and I don't see any notification. Very odd...but things seem to be better now.

If the problem returns I will get the Kaspersky online scanner log, but it's mysteriously ok for now...as if you know somethings up because it's too quiet.

    I don't feel 100% safe yet.
But so far thank you again for the help.

Please keep me posted on this. In the meantime, to make yourself feel safer why not go to this link PROTECT YOURSELF FROM MALWARE: Tools & Tips
Read PP's tips for staying safe. I would also recommend that you download and install SpyWareBlaster
a super, FREE addition all should have on their computers. As you will see on PP's link it is one of the must have tools he recommends also.
