My ISP is shutting down and I need to find another solution, I have had satellite and will not go back I also will not go back to dial-up and I live too far out of town for DSL. I have 1 choice left besides moving into my in-laws to use their dsl.

Alltel offers internet using a pcmcia card connected to a router, does anyone use something like that and if so how well does it work? Does it have random disconnects and what are your speeds? Does anyone have more information on using this technology? I play wow and really don't want to get something that is not going to be stable.

I will have to pay 450 for the equipment and 60 a month with a 2 year contract. I don't want to get locked into this and regret it.

Any input on this will be appreciated.

I can't say much for it, but I know friends who have this with Sprint.

Be sure you get a good signal out there...in some locations they can get faster than cable speeds, while others, it's not even fast enough to load webpages.

Look at it as this, you are buying a cell phone for your computer. If you get crappy cell-phone service out there, guess what you'll get from the internet.

As for the random disconnections, never heard much about them, but as with any RF based signal, it's always going to be a possibility.

ISDN...is rape...flat out. a 64k connection that costs 2x what it does for DSL (and that's on the cheap side of things), not too mention, double that just to make it seems worth it...

I never understood the point of ISDN, not only is it expensive and slow, but its very complicated in terms of how it works, compared to DSL, ATM, etc.

Ask your phone company if they support extended reach dsl, you may only get 300/128 but it would be loads better than dialup.
