Question Data DVD not able to be read

Sorry if I am posting this in the wrong forum. Wasn't sure where to put it.
I made a data DVD using Nero to back up files from my computer before deleting them from the computer. Now when I put the DVD in the drive, it says there is no DVD. Is there anyway to recover these files or have I lost them for good? Thanks for your help.

    Hi Anne,

-- Does the drive recognize other (data) DVDs?
-- Have you tried the DVD in a different drive ( if available)?
-- Did you check the data DVD immediately after burning it to see if it had burned properly? IE, did it read OK before?

Sadly, if you burned a coaster and then deleted the material from your compy, you are probably out of luck.

I am afraid that may be the case. I can use commercial DVDs in the drive, I don't remember if I tried it right after I made it. I did it several months ago during a very busy time so I have no clue. I tried it in 2 other computers and and the external burner that I made it with but no luck. I have hard copies of the data that can be scanned with OCR so it is not totally lost but it is not ideal. Oh well, live and learn. Thanks for responding.

    Indeed!

And here I thought I was a bit odd with my obsessive checking of newly burned discs...
