    Problem With Microsoft Word

This may seem minor, but it's been bothering me intensely.

Usually when you highlight text with the cursor and type, the text is replaced. However, if I highlight text with the cursor and type, the highlighted text remains. Instead of replacing the text, the new text is tacked on the front of it.

This also means that I can't delete mass amounts of text with the Backspace key (the delete key still works, but that's not the conventional method). I have to backspace one character at a time.

    Help?

    P. S. If you have NO idea what I'm trying to say, I can always do some quick Print Screen and MS Paint work for you.

you are in insert mode (program default)
    as described here http://www.baycongroup.com/word2003/word03.htm

this page has a way to disable it http://www.annoyances.org/exec/show/article08-105

In Word, go to the Tools menu, select Options. Click on the Edit tab. The very first box says "typing replaces selection." If that box is unchecked, you will not be able to delete selected text with you backspace or delete key. Sometimes it turns itself off. Don't ask why - you will never find out. Just accept that the "screw up fairy" has been to visit and move on.

Make sure that insert key is on or off.
