What is the home page you selected IE to open onto? Maybe you have a
blank page selected.

If no joy, try this:
Click: Start>Run> Type: sfc /scannow
In order to avoid the use of the XP CD for "sfc /scannow" repair, follow
the instructions on http://www.updatexp.com/scannow-sfc.html.
Navigate to the location in the registry to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\Windows\Curr entVersion\SetUp
and set SourcePath(in the right panel) to C:\ if you have the folder
"i386" in your C drive.
