Does a decent anonymous IP address method exist for a windows xp simpleton?

I'm not real good with windows xp but I would like to find freeware to post
news, send mail, and visit web sites without my ip address always pointing
back directly to me via my isp.

I tried something called Tor freeware but it was so horrid to set up on
windows xp that I failed miserably.

Is there any simple to set up freeware that works on windows and which
hides my ip address? When I google, I find so much that I can't separate
    the wheat from the chaff.

A one-word answer is fine as you can help me focus on the one or two
freeware ip address obfuscators that actually work on windows and which are
easy to set up (easier than that Tor onion thing anyway).

Please tell me which anonymous ip address freeware you recommend that is
easy to use and set up on windows.

    Tips for using above.

Only post to one newsgroup at a time.
Type your message in a text editor, spell check, then cut and paste the
    message due the word warp.
Flood prevention in effect so you can only post about three messages
    in a given session.

What specifically did you find difficult about setting up Tor? Most of
the time it installs and works fine at its default settings. And if
you obtain it in the Vidalia package it even configures the Firefox
web browser if you have it installed. Beyond that there won't be any
difference between configuring Tor and any other software because it's
really a matter of setting up your clients properly. That will be the
same no matter what proxy you use.

    Tor. :-)

It really is the best there is right now. And Vidalia is the easiest
to set up of all of them because it does some of the work for you. If
you get a little more specific about your problems I bet you can sort
them out with a little help.

There really aren't that many. Tor and JAP. JAP is the same thing as
Tor only more limited because it only handles WWW traffic. Tor will do
other things like IRC. Neither one of them will let you send email
though. Tor has the ability, bet it's shut off because of the abuse
potential. You can still read regular email, and of course do Web
    Mail.

After that you're probably looking at something like Cotse. It's a
paid service ($5.95/month), but it has the best email on the net and
about as many ways to hide your IP address from Google and Usenet
readers as you can imagine. I believe you also get some web space in
that price, so you can put up a couple pages privately.

    http://www.cotse.net

If you must stick with free, then take another look at Tor. Post your
specific errors or problems, or join the OR-Talk mailing list and post
    them there.

To join the or-talk mailing list, send an email message to
majordomo@seul.org with no subject and a body of "subscribe or-talk".
