    Good Adware and Spyware Program?

I installed a trial version of PC Tools "Spy Doctor" on my Windows 98 machine
after a recent issue of PC World gave it their "best" rating. The program reacted
slugglishly, and it took forever to scan. It did find 200 "cookies" and a handful
of possible hijack items...all low threat. It also slowed my internet connection
to a crawl. I uninstalled it, and now everything is fine. Can anyone recommend
a good adware/spyware program for Windows 98 that is thorough and doesn't use a
lot of resources? I don't mind paying if it works well.

    Thanks!
    Scott

I already answered this in another news group.....answer repeated below.

Beware, Scott. Both AdAware and Spybot have updated their products and
some even with XP are having problems.

Go to www.oldversion.com and get the slightly earlier ones there. I am
still using the old AdAware 1.06 and Spybot S & D 1.4 and they are
better for your computer than the new ones.

    Cheers....Heather

Aye, that they are. Sometimes, newer isn't always better.
