AdAware is taking forever to run

What I am doing wrong here.... I installed AdAware latest free version 0023.0000 (that's the only version info I could find) and run it on the entire computer. Running overnight the progress bar shows only 1/3 finished. The other version ran on the same computer in a few minutes.

Should I dump this program or is there a setting, etc. that needs to be checked?

I know I can only scan "key" portions of the computer, but I prefer to scan the whole drive.

    Thanks in advance.

    Sam

Thanks, FFG. Will take a look at these settings in AdAware.

I just checked out WD and I'm using Win2000Prof. Unless there's another version for Win2000Prof?

Nope, WD will not work with Windows 2000 Pro.

If you can't get AdAware to work correctly you might wanna try Spyware
Terminator. It has real time protection, but when I tried it a while
back the real time was a pain in the ass because it keep asking for
access every time I opened a program. And it didn't just ask once, it
keep asking, even after I clicked OK and remember this setting. Maybe
they have corrected that by now. (the real time protection can be
    turned off)

I have been using Spyware Terminator, on two computers, for
about a year and the real time protection never keeps asking me
for access on the same program. Once I tell it to let a program
run, that's the end of it.

They problem I was having, was MULTIPLE popups when I opened a program
for the 1st time, one right after another. I'll bet I had to click "OK
remember" at least 20-30 times in a row for the same program.

Every though I don't use it anymore, I'm glad to see that the problem
is resolved. SWT is the #1 rated freeware program, from what I've
    read anyway.

    sammy,

there have been posts to this group in the past were the def files get
corrupted and cause adaware to run slowly. look in the achieves for the
steps to resolve the issue but, basically you delete the adaware def
files and download the current updates from lavasoft and the issue is
resolved. i had this issue once with version 1.06 se. deleting the def
files, then downloading the updates resolved the issue for me.

if your running the 2007 version, i cant help there. i currently still
    running version 1.6 se.

again, check old posts, the issue has been discussed in the past.

    hope this helps.

Thanks, Hammer Dude. I downloaded the free version and couldn't get it to work. Might be a good one but if I follow the directions and it doesn't work the first time I have to pass on it.

Thanks Bob. Where can a feller get the older versions? That might be the problem here.
