Spybot 1.5 very slow to boot

I recently installed Spybot 1.5 on WinMe machine. It takes forever to
boot. Double-click on icon or exe file produces nothing, not even
hourglass, for about 20-25 seconds, then Spybot suddenly appears and
starts. Spybot 1.4 always booted almost instantly, so I've gone back to
that. I see from Spybot forums that several folk have complained about
exactly same problem with Spybot 1.5. Anyone else with similar
    experience? Any solutions?

I'm using a fairly powerful computer running Windows XP SP2 and Spybot
1.5 definitely takes longer to boot than 1.4. I'm also a little
disappointed that the scan engine with 1.5 isn't any faster than 1.4. At
least, I haven't noticed any difference.

I'm still using 1.4 with a dual core 3800+ 64 with 2 gig of RAM and XP
Pro and Spybot takes 6 sec to boot. That's as quick as it gets.

I've also noticed on my two PC's that Spybot 1.5 will frequently
freeze up for about 20 seconds during an update session. I see the words
'not responding.' Then it goes away.

HP 1 GB machine takes 29.75 seconds to fully open Spybot Search &
Destroy 1.5. I also hear a beep from the BIOS before program startup. I
don't notice such behavior from other programs on this box. Running
    Windows XP, SP2.

This thread on the Spybot forum introduces a beta update that fixed
    both problems for me:

Thank you for this, with 'gratitude' turned to max.
