I too have uninstalled Spy Sweeper. I was using it without problem for
a long time, but recent updates started giving me trouble, and the
troubles got worse.

In my case, Spy Sweeper would lock up while trying to update itself.
Somehow, Spy Sweeper is able to resist being killed by any of my software
tools, even EndItAll, which is quite powerful. My only choice is to
reboot.

Also, Spy Sweeper became very slow while doing its scan. It would run
for seven to ten hours, doing the same sweep that SpyBot and AdAware
would finish in less than one hour.

I am not convinced that Spy Sweeper is 100% to blame. Perhaps there is
a conflict between it and one of my other software gadgets. Sunbelt
Personal Firewall? Grisoft AVG? Who knows. In any case, I had to get
rid of Spy Sweeper. I uninstalled it...

....and Spy Sweeper bit me one last time. I noticed that Spy Sweeper
did a poor job of uninstalling itself. It left a few bits of rubbish
behind, in my registry and on my file system. In particular, there was
a keyboard filter that did not go away. So I deleted it myself. The next
time I rebooted, my keyboard would not work! I ended up reinstalling
Windows XP, and then doing a "restore" from my nightly backup. After
that, I removed the keyboard filter, but I was more careful.

I still use SpyBot (latest version) and AdAware (older version). Zero
problems. I see that the latest AdAware version loads a Windows Service
that hangs around forever, and is difficult to get rid of. So I have
not upgraded. Even so, I like these two programs enough that I have
donated money to both authors. It is just too bad that I purchased Spy
Sweeper outright. It became an irritating little ass biter.
